What a beautiful and extraordinary pair of vintage compacts. They are octagonal in shape and finely made of filigree and vermeil. They are each hallmarked in three places but for the life of all of us here at our shop we cannot make out the hallmark in any of those six places. We have photographed them as best we can and maybe you will be able to see what the actual hallmark is. The largest compact, I assume for powder, is 2.5 inches wide from side to side and 2.75 inches wide from point to point. The smaller of the two, I assume for rouge, is 1.75 inches from side to side and 2 inches from point to point. They are intricately filigreed on both the tops and the bottoms and the tops are decorated with approximately .25 inch enameled flowers. There are seven on the small compact and 9 on the large one. This pair is in exceptional condition. Their hinges and latches work perfectly. There is some wear to the gold wash and you can see the silver shining through but they have an overall gold appearance. They both have their original puffs with one in the original cellophane. The mirrors have some desilvering. Through examination of workmanship and style we have determined their age to be circa 1930’s-1950’s. We also believe them to be either French or Italian but not being able to understand the hallmark makes exact origination impossible for us. These gorgeous compacts are one of a kind. We have found nothing comparable. They should be yours.
